Andrew Carnegie- Wealth

Andrew Carnegie- Wealth

“The poor enjoy what the rich could not before afford.” Andrew Carnegie is comparing how now the workers can buy the luxuries that in older times where impossible or hard for even the rich to acquire. Basically Andrew Carnegie is stating the labors are lucky that now that are able to afford these things that once was so rare.

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln became the president of the united states in 1860’s. Abraham Lincoln was against slavery. He said that the country was just saying that everyone was created equal given the exception to Negros and he felt that that was wrong. Lincoln worked hard to get rid of slavery but he was assassinated in 1865. That was when the American Civil war started and ended slavery.

Susan B Anthony's Statement at the Close of her Trial

Susan B Anthony:

“Your denial of my citizens right to vote is the denial of my right of consent as one of the governed, the denial of my right of representation as one of the taxed, the denial of my right to a trial by a jury of my peers as an offender against the law, therefore the denial of my sacred rights to life liberty, property”

Susan B Anthony was telling the judge why she was not guilty. Also she was stating that it was unjust for women not to be allowed to vote that it took away all there rights. She says that she is denied the right to vote but yet she is being taxed and she is denied the right to a jury but yet she is an offender against the law. Susan says that is the reasons why she is denied the right to life, liberty, and property.

Brown vs Board of Education

African American students were not  allowed to go to the same public schools as the white students. Brown said it was unconstitutional to segregate the blacks from the whites. Brown stated how segregating the blacks from whites made the blacks feel inferior to the whites therefore affecting there education. Also stated was the fact that separate but equal was not really equal and they ask for the right of the 14th amendment to be given to them. Brown won his case but it took some time for it to actually take effect.

The Articles of Confederation Interpretation

“Regulating the alloy and value of the coin…”
This was one of the many things that the Articles of Confederation wanted to change.  The Article of Confederation wanted to change the value of the money so that throughout the whole United States in every place the value would be the same. This was probably one of the few things that were good about the Article of Confederation. Eventually everything fell apart because the Article of Confederation was weak.

Thomas Paine Interpertation

“The strength of one man is so unequal to his wants and his mind so unfitted for perpetual solitude that he is soon obliged to seek assistance and relief of another, who in turn requires the same.”(pg50)
Thomas Paine tries to recreate society starting from the beginning, to explain his reasoning. Paine says that the strength of a man is not that strong for him to do what he wants so he looks for someone else to help him with his wants and needs, and so on. I believe this is the truth just because for example someone has a great idea but that does not mean that they can put their ideas out without any help. No one is perfect and what someone is lacking someone else might have it.

Roger Williams: The bloody Tenet of Persecution for Cause of Conscience summary

For our homework I chose Roger Williams because it is a very interesting passage.

Roger Williams did not stay in a specific religion first he was an Anglican,Puritan, and he founded the Baptist Church of America. While in England he published The Bloody Tenet of Persecution for the cause of Conscience. Roger Williams beliefs were that everyone being religious or not had a right to there own religious liberty. Also Williams believes that government does not have a right to put religious laws. Williams hated the hypocrisy of the Christians they were preaching peace but would use violence to force other to believe there beliefs. Williams was pointing out how the laws would favor one religion and not the others.
