This was one of the many things that the Articles of Confederation wanted to change. The Article of Confederation wanted to change the value of the money so that throughout the whole United States in every place the value would be the same. This was probably one of the few things that were good about the Article of Confederation. Eventually everything fell apart because the Article of Confederation was weak.
